1969 Z/28 Clutch?
 

What is the size of a clutch for a 1969 Z/28 with M-21 trans? I *think* it is a 10.5 inch unit.

Which clutch is preferable -- Center Force or Ram?

10.5" is correct as issued in 69 Z's with the 403 bell housing. If your looking for a good replacement, go to a hays clutch disk and pressure plate. They are far better than a C-Farce unit.

I personaly do not like centre force clutches either, at least the dual friction style with the little weights on the fingers.
I build a lot of cars for people and have had numerous customers supply a Centre Force clutch. I have taken the weights off temporarily, and checked the balance of the press plate and have had them as far out as 24 grams.
A lot of people run them with no trouble, but every time i have removed the trans at a later date the weights are off centre.
I have had a Hays Gold Diahpram press plate in my Z for going on 25 years, and it has never given any trouble what so ever, even when i drag raced that car in the 70,s, and trust me it got abused!
MaCleod also makes a good piece.

I use the McLeod disc/PP exclusively after wiping many of the CF and Hays units. The dual friction McLeod disc is great for the street, easy engagement and mild pedal pressure with the diaphragm PP. I have one of their sintered iron discs on a car, and even that isn't too miserable on the street. Great tech support, too. No, I don't work for them.
