L89 ragtop at Russo and Steele

I was curious if anyone knew about this car. It sold for quite a reasonable amount, which makes its legitimacy suspicious, but apparently it was in some magazine or TV show when it was being rebuilt. Does anyone know about this car?

It's not an orange 69 by any chance is it?

Is this the L89 you are talking about? I didn't get a chance to drop by the R&S Auction, was to busy at BJ. By looking at the pictures though, there are a couple of things that are incorrect.
Final Bid: Sold! $62,125

Underwent a meticulus restoration, and some jackass added Z28 style stripes to an SS. Note the black houndstooth interior, that you can't get in a convertible, how about U17 console gauges without a clock, or the fact that you could not order heater delete in the US mainland in a Camaro. Not much info to base a 62K sale price on in the ad, hope whoever bought it checked it out.

Know this car, saw it at the auction, know the owner. He had the original block on a stand at the auction. The Tonowanda stamp and partial VIN are on the eng. stamp pad. Broaching is distinct and part. VIN matches the car's VIN. There is no paperwork on the car. The "meticulous" resto is definitely leaving something to be desired along w/ the aforementioned inaccuracies. I believe it is a real car and was indeed a great buy at that price. i was not in a position to buy as I was putting a car across the block 4 slots later. It needs a complete resto although it is a very solid car. Orig color is glacier blue (code 53) with black top and black standard interior. Not the best color but needs to return to orig state. restored correctly this wld be a fine automobile and indeed rare.

any pics of the trim tag at all or do you know the build month and is it a NOR or LOS car?
Heater Delete had to be added as well.

If that was a #'s matching car then that was a heck of a deal. L89 is pretty much the ultimate convertible. RS added in would be the icing on the cake. Obviously that car is not very close to being techinically correct, but those things can be fixed over time.

And in ten years the car will be worth what, $150,000 or better, especially if its shortcomings get corrected, and 60-odd thousand will look like the deal of the century.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

You are assuming that it is real, and if it is then it is a deal even though it will cost about 10 grand to put back to it's correct original condition. Still nothing present in that ad or from any other source proves it is (or isn't) real.
