Hurst shifter handle insulators/rebuilding???

My 72 T/A has the original Hurst four speed shifter with the press in stick not the bolt-on one. (Same as the Camaro from 1968 to '70-something)Does anyone out there know where to get the replacement rubber insulators that the stick sets into? These insulators hold the shims that actually hold the chrome shifter stick in place. Not a great design but they are the original design. Also, does anyone have the address/contact info to send the shifter to Hurst for rebuilding? I prefer not to have to send it to Year One and pay a middle man. Thanks, NJSteve

Give Pete Serio of Precision Pontiac a call, he is a Hurst expert that really is second to no one. Here's the link www.precisionpontiac.com

actually, I sent my shifter to Year One, as their price to have Hurst rebuild it was lower than the one I got directly from Hurst.

I've heard horror stories about the Year One drop shipping to Hurst process, most of them involving the fact that you dont necessarily get your own shifter back, and by the time you notice there's a problem, it's too late to track where your's went.

Here is the address if you want to send your shifter in for a rebuild, I dissassembled mine , had it replated and then sent it in, came back looking NOS.
Hurst repair 550 Mallory way,Carson City,Nevada 89701" The turnaround time is usually 4 to 5 weeks or less and the cost is $90.00 plus freight and any parts not normally used in a standard rebuild.

Bruce,
Did you send them the chrome shifter handle and did they re-chrome it? Did you send all the rods?
Thanks,
-Sam

Sam
I had the handle rechromed, and the shifter rods replated, as well as the housing and all linkage parts from different sources.
I only sent him the shifter assembly and parts, they install new plates, and needed worn parts and reassemble.
I have had them do 2 shifters for me in the last 6 years. a 69 camaro, and a 70 pistol grip, and getting another 69 camaro ready to send to them.
