Repairing the dent in the subframe of Camaro Nova

My subframe has a dent in it (big surprise) from floor jacks. What is the best way to repair this area? I thought about cutting a large rectangle out of the bottom panel, straightening it out, welding it back in and grinding the welds smooth. I know this is within my capabilities and would be undetectible unless someone could get a good look at the inside. The alternative would be to cut a large hole on the top piece to gain access, pound the bottom panel straight and then weld the the piece back in the top, again grinding the welds back smooth.

I do have an extra subframe I could practice on. I am sure someone has done this as it seems to be just as important as those dill valve stem caps.

You can get a better looking result if you remove the entire bottom piece and make a new one to replace it.

I repaired mine by drilling out the spot welds along the front and back of the dented area. Then used a 1/8" cutoff wheel to cut from front to back. You can spend as much time as you like making the piece straight. While I had it opened up I added a piece of channel iron for reinforcement. Clamp the piece back in position and redo the spot welds and weld up the ends. After I ground it all smooth I took a drill bit and put small marks to duplicate the factory spot welds. Some paint or powdercoat and it will look good as new.

Try hooking it to a frame machine and lifting......It may pop out!

Thanks Dusk Blue Z. That is very similar to what I was thinking. Makes sense to go ahead at least to the front and bak edge if not take off the whole bottom piece.
