1969 SS396 radiator to fan clearance

I am reinstalling the big block in my 1969 SS RS Camaro and I am not comfortable with the clearance between the front of the fan clutch and the radiator. Does anybody know what the clearance should be? The car had a 1968 short water pump and bracket set up for some reason. I changed the waterpump to the long style pump and installed the right pulleys and brackets and everything lines up. The radiator is a four core and it came out of the car. The fan clutch is about 3" tall when placed a table. Any suggestions on what the proper clearance should be, would be appreciated.

My L78 has 1 3/8" distance between the fan clutch and radiator, my original fan clutch is closer to 2 1/2 inches tall, maybe 2 5/8"

Jeff, can you post a pic of your original fan clutch? Thanks,

Jeff thanks for your information. Bill the "other car" is the reason that I am putting this car together. Thanks for reminding me of the one that got away, boy that was a dumb move on my part in selling it. That is one of the problems I have now, I do not think I can duplicate the quality of that car and still keep it affordable.
