Stinger Wheel Sizes

Hello

I would like to know what the original and optional wheel sizes for the corvair stingers where (ie 14" or 15"? and 6 or 8"?). I have seen some pictures with minilites and am curious as to what will work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rob

Re: Stinger Wheel Sizes

All stock '65+ Corvair coupe and sedan wheels were 13x5.5".

Any SCCA D-Production raced Yenko Stinger was required to run no larger than a 13x7", when competing from '66 thru '72. For 1973 the class became GT3 and thus allowed the pulled out fenders and larger wheels and tires. The only wheels that Yenko sold out of his catalog, were 13x7 double center, steel wheels. They were 2 for $70. :-)

The only larger Corvair GM installed wheels, came on the Corvan, Greenbrier, and Loadside & Rampside trucks. These were 14" steel wheels.

As far as aftermarket wheels, some people have put 16-17" wheels on their corvairs. I'll see if I can find any info. for you as to what fits without alot of modifications.

Here's a couple of pics of my car with the original Yenko Race wheels on it.

I agree, Bob...and they don't get *near* the respect they deserve. They handle like they're on rails, and they're so stinkin' light it doesn't take much to get them to be really fast. Plus, that's where Yenko cut his teeth on the whole COPO system...would be cool to see more in Collinsville...

Thanks for the info.

I am an early corvair guy who is looking to build a late corvair in a stinger style. I have noticed lots of cars running the 3rd generation 15x7 camaro alloys. I am tending towards minilites for that cool vintage racing look. Some people are running 15x7s in the front and 15x8s in the rear.

I want minimum to no modification to the car so I am just wondering if you or anyone knows about offsets and such.

Stingers are so Cool.

Robski,

Here's a place that has people there with more answers than you could imagine. Most of these people have done more than anyone could imagine with Corvairs. Hope this helps you.

Hey when you get that vair built lets see some photos , great cars aren't they.

My V8 registry newsletter just came and has a 3 page article on tire and wheel sizes that work on corvairs from 13" up to 17" . what offsets for each wheel size and what tires work with them, great article with good detail. send me you e-mail or PM it to me and I will scan the article and sent it to you .
