Take a looka t this engine pad assembly code
I saw a 396 block on the "bay" today and I was wondering
if you guys think it is an original stamping. The eBay item number is: 4598412373 The JL suffix appears to be lower than the rest of the code. I've never seen one like that before. I'd just like to know what other think about its authenticity. Steve |

Definitely tampered with. The L is lower then the J.

That looks like a hand stamped assy date or engine code. Gang stamps are pretty straight and even. This could be a converted 2-bolt block since no pics were shown of the oil filter area.

This block belongs to a member here. It was posted for sale here a couple weeks ago for $1800. He also listed a set of 840 heads here for $1200.
