63 Impala 409

I am looking at a 63 Impala SS 409. I've been told you can verify a real 409 by the size of the fuel line. Does anyone know if this is true or where I might do some research on the issue?

Not really possible to verify a restored car unless you have paperwork...all the fuel lines and do dads are pretty much available....is it an original or restored car ? 63 409 used a return line to the tank. Contact Verne Frantz on this and many other boards for more info ...

If you haven't already found it, here's the link to 409dotcom. . Is the engine supposedly original and do you have the numbers from the pad stamping and/or pics of the pad? . Good luck! ~ Pete

Also what's the Vin? . You may be fortunate enough to have a Canadian built car and documents available. ~ Pete

Thanks Pete and Belair, I used the vin decoder on www.348-409.com which told me this car was a 63 6 cyl. built in L.A. in December. I was about to get real serious about a fake. I have been reading this site for about 6 mo. I appreciate your help. Mitch

If Chevy would just release (or make available) the VIN listings, all this forgery would cease. It's just sad.

Canadian documents are available as the Vins and options shipped w/ the Vin are on microfilm for cars built in Canada also US cars originaly shipped into Canada. .
On the U.S. stuff, I remember reading once that the shipping documents are on paper computer print outs sitting in a bunch of train cars somewhere? . Anyone know if this is true and if so, it sounds like a next to impossible, lifelong job to go through it and organize it to a point you could even search the info? ~ Pete
