A #3932386 327 block

Iīm putting together an engine useing a #3932386 block with 2-bolt mains. Colvin list this block as a 210 hp 327 in 1969 Camaros only. (It was used in a variety of cars and cui-versions as a 4-bolt block). Colvin says it was used from August of 1968 until approximately January of 1969.
My block was originally used to build a 1969 235 hp 327 Pass. engine at the McKinnon factory in Canada on October 24 (K1024FB).
What I donīt understand is the casting date which is 8 K 9, in that order. Does that mean 1968 Nov 9, which is after the build-date of the engine ? Any ideas ?

Anders,

Although not the norm, the letter "I" was sometimes omitted for "cast-in" dates. (See THIS FAQ on the CRG WEB site.)

If this is the case, your block would have been cast on October 9th, 1968, which now makes sense.

If everything was normal, it should actually look like this: J 9 8
But anything is possible, I guess. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

You must have misread that paragraph for the CRG site. The letter "I" was definately used in casting dates.

Here is the quote from the link you provided:

[ QUOTE ]
For cast-in date codes on GM-produced iron and aluminum castings (engine blocks, heads, intakes, water pumps, etc.), the letter "I" was used for September, and the last month of the calendar year (December) was the letter "L"

Mike,

You didn't read far enough.

Again, from the CRG site:

[ QUOTE ]
For example, a few casting dates have been seen with "M" for December; until further research indicates otherwise these exceptions are considered non-normative production anomalies.

[/ QUOTE ]

If I read that right, the date codes come out to be:

"NORMAL" ------ Month ----- "ABBY NORMAL"
A ------------- January --- A
B ------------- February -- B
C ------------- March ----- C
D --------------April ----- D
E ------------- May ------- E
F ------------- June ------ F
G ------------- July ------ G
H ------------- August ---- H
I ------------- September --J
J ------------- October --- K
K ------------- November -- L
L ------------- December -- M

No "I" in the "Abby Normals"

And by the way, "Abby Normal"... What GREAT movie did that come from?

Did the McKinnon factory mabye have a different way of datecoding the blocks ? Mabye the didnīt use the I in castings either.
And did American foundrys sometimes put the number for the year first, the letter in the middle, and the number for the day last ?
