New Muncie

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the new M-22's and if the model with the fourth gear as an overdrive would be worth getting.

Are you refering to an Auto Gear transmission ?

Re: New Muncie

No, it's a new transmission with new gear ratios; 1-3 are close and then 4th is an over-drive.

Sounds like a standard wide-ratio M20 to me? But it for sure ain't new...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Except for the funky final gear set, it sounds like your standard "Super Case" Muncie...I'd like to hear from someone who runs one....we had the discussion over at the Pure Stock site about M20 versus M21, and it was agreed that most folks had found that the bigger 3-4 drop with the wide ratio trans cost them some ET/MPH...cool alternative, though.

Kind of expensive...they can be built cheaper than that.

Re: New Muncie

I would agree with Belair.
Besides, I would build a 2.72 or 2.96 ratio instead of the OD. I have built a few 2.96s for 302 Z cars and it is a night and day difference in the way the car drives.
It makes a 3.31 rear drive like a 4.56 and a M21. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif
Besides overdriving a gearset puts more strain inside the trans case. Even though the Supercase is strong enough to take the stress, the cluster is always under load in an OD trans, because it has no "coast" position.
This is just my $.02 on the topic.

I do not agree with you Real Fast. That is in my opinion the same transmission that Auto Gear in New Jersey has been building for years. I suspect somebody else is buying some of the parts ( case etc ) from Auto Gear, copying the design and calling it something else.

That guy " jetboatbill " has been abvertising transmissions on ebay and other places for a sometime. To me it's a home made version of an Auto Gear tranny. I would not buy any Auto Gear transmissions or Auto Gear parts unless it was dirctly from Auto Gear. George at Auto Gear is excellent. He will stand behind their products and give continous support. I have two of their transmissions.

Julian: what were your impressions of a steep geared tranny with road gears in the rear, with a high winding Z powerplant? We have a similar project coming together (small displacement with decent rev range) that will see some interstate driving...probably gonna go TKO600/4.10s, but just considering my options...
