67 L78 Camaro
New to site, very interesting. I'm going to look at a 67 L78 4sp Camaro this Tuesday. The person selling it is advertising it as a base camaro as it is missing all emblems and has a small block in it. I went to GM canada for documentation, and I was shocked. Not alot of options on the car, basically just the L78 and F41 suspension. Would anyone know if what Muncie should be in this car? Seller says it's an M22 - but he doesn't seem confident in his info. Rear end is 4.10 12 bolt. Thanks Jeff |
Re: 67 L78 Camaro
They only came with the M21.

Re: 67 L78 Camaro
The M-22 wasn't available until 1968 in the Camaro. Base Trans for the L78 was an M20 and the M21 was an added option. If you look at the passenger side of the main casing at the back lip you will be able to see if there is an ID stamp. The stamp is the code for the trans as it would read on the pop. This will give you the plant, date, etc. If you can get me a picture of the cowl tag I can give you an idea of it being legit or a repop as well.

In 67 only the M21 was available in an L78 powered camaro.

Unless it was an error. The production data that I have also shows that there were 1733 M-21 cars built. If there are 602 Z's and 1138 L78's then there are 7 fewer M-21's than the cars that they were supposed to be in. In either case I would love to see another one on the road again. |
Re: 67 L78 Camaro
Thanks for the information. I made an error in the year, the vehicle is a 68.
I'm headed off tomorrow to take a look, I'll post a picture of the cowl tag. |
Re: 67 L78 Camaro
I don't believe the letter designation for the trans ID was used until the 69 model year (A, B, or C, M20, M21, or M22).

Re: 67 L78 Camaro
Brought the car home. It does have an M22, but not originial to the car.
Thanks |
