JL8 front calipers on my car?
 

Ok my car is weird and it keeps getting weirder all the time. The car is an LA built car and it was built in November of 1968 so it is to early to be a JL8 car. The car had 15 inch rally wheels on it when I bought it and I have 14 inch steel XT style wheels on it now and I have not measured the rotors yet. The car has no other sign of it being a JL8 other than the front calipers. Was there another caliper out there that would look the same as one of these calipers that would work in a stock application? I am about ready to change them to the regular single puck caliper to clear my wheels if this is the case or is there something else out there that I am not aware of and I should leave it alone?

JL8's have a unique part # for the dust shields. Look for the part #'s. Also many people mistake 67-8 4 piston's for JL8.

I bet you are right. I thought that they went to the 1969 style caliper in 1968. I have other 1968 specific parts on my car so this is probably the case considering the build date on my car. Is there any way to identify a 1968 caliper? I am having clearance issues with the new wheels and I would hate to grind the markings on a valuable caliper just for a set of wheels.

I don't think the TTO's would work with the 68 calipers even if you ground off the high spots on the caliper. Keep in mind that the TTO's are not a D-Spoke wheel.

I thought I read that they addressed this problem somewhere when they reproduced these wheels. In the fitment catalog they did not mention this potential problem for 1969 Camaros. I would have not bought these wheels from American had I known this because there are to many other people making the same looking wheel that do fit like Vintage or E.T. But I mounted the tires on the wheels so the wheels are not returnable. With enough grinding and spacers you can make anything fit but I do not like it and I am disappointed in the answers I received from American wheel and their dealer. Pretty much what I am saying is please be careful when buying these wheels because they did not fit as expected in my case.

Mark, if you have not done anything yet I believe I have somebody that can help you with your problem. He was a big help for me with some American Racing Torque Thrust T70's I just put on my car.
