1976 Trans/Am 455 Last one ?

My cousin is the original owner of a 1976 T/A with the 455, 4 spd. She is offering it to me at a good price. It has been sitting in her garage since 1986 with over 150000 family miles. When she ordered it,She knew Alex Mair GM of Pontiac division at the time and was told by him it was the "Last 455 off the line" that year. She has lots of paper work, but no documentation other than Mair and the dealer telling her that. I called Pontiac and they were unable to confirm that. Any suggestions on how I can get that information.

She can order a PHS packet on the car,not sure if that will determine the last built 455 but at least it will validate the cars options(hey they oughta do this with chevy's:) If she's still in contact with the ex GM an affidavit from him wouldn't hurt either.

I called Pontiac, there is not much they can do saying it's before their records. I'm sure there are still build sheets in the car somewhere and my cousin still has all the papers from when she bought it.

I think what LateBrakeU2 was referring to was the Pontiac Historical Services packet. Here is a link to their website - http://www.phs-online.com/

Contact them, they should be able to provide you with the original information about the car. This is an invaluable service, I just wish it was availible for more makes.

that Pontiac guy probably meant it was the last year for the 455.

i had an orange one back in the early 80's.with 308 gears, that thing would fly.

they are pretty rare, and i believe 455's that year only came with 4 speeds.

Alex Mair was GM the General Manager of Pontiac and quite an extensive General Motors career. My cousin had a professional relationship with him in Washington. Even the dealer remarked to her that she had to know someone to get the last one "off the line". It was not a case of having the last year of production. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
