Firestone Signs
My favorite local tire shop is closing and moving into more modern facilities. During my last stop in the shop this week I asked the manager what he was going to do with the two "tin" Firestone signs. I was glad when he offered them to me as they would be putting up new signs. These signs are white lettered with red background and are 20" tall by 10' wide. There is no framing around these. Can the sign-experts tell me how old these may be or any details to look for?
Thanks. |

Just buy them!!! [/ QUOTE ] That's not an issue. He will GIVE them to me when they shut down the shop in 3 weeks. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif I was back later and decided to ask about the large lighted Firestone sign up on a pole, but manager was not there. I will get photos and get back to you. My guess is they are not too old, but are cool nonetheless and will be hanging in my garage. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: Firestone Signs
Check on the bottom of the signs. A lot of the older ones have the date of manufacture printed on the bottom front of the signs.

Re: Firestone Signs
GO NOW...don't wait! .
Firestone stuff is one of the coolest and I'm still kicking myself for missing out when I had the chance. . My pal's Dad ran the Firestone here back through the glory years and although I saved a few of the old racing jackets, I was in no position to do anything when the signs came down...we even took the old '60 Ford Firestone pickup to the boneyard within the past 10 years too! . If the BIG lighted one is there and you can make it happen, do it but make sure you have a safe indoor place to land it. . Keep your eyes open for some of the cool tire racks and garage cabinets also dig deep to see if there's stuff that was tucked away in attic storage areas...banners, displays and of course old tires! . Firestone also sold rebadged bicycles and outboards also pressed steel toy trucks so watch for these also shipping boxes from stuff like this. . Almost forgot...on the outside of the buildings there was usually individual red letters that said Firestone w/ the flying 'F' also 'Complete Service' and some other slogans...so don't miss these if they're still there and you can put the grab on them! . Good luck!!! . https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif ~ Pete |
Re: Firestone Signs
Went out to the Tire shop to snap a couple of photos. The gates were locked so I took photos from behind gates...

Re: Firestone Signs
BTW, this small tire shop was not an exclusive Firestone store. They sell other brands too. Will try to get close ups of the tin signs later today or tomorrow.
Thanks, |
