Favorite Muscle Car
 

Here's the deal. I am looking at getting another muscle car for this summer just for cruising. The problem is choosing a single car when there are so many that are appealing. Camaro? Firebird? GTO? Chevelle? Other? Hard top or Conv. I want something that says Muscle and will get me some tickets (hopefully not too many). What I'm looking for is some suggestions that may point me in some direction. What car would you choose and why? In the range of 20-25K. I've got my strip car now I need something for the street. I just don't know what???

Do you want something that is original or modified? You can find a nice driver quality Chevelle SS for that price.

All the main stream musclecars that you mention, don't come cheap. If you want to save a few dollars, think outside the box. We have a good example of this. Our '72 Lemans Sport has all the good musclecar options, 1970 455 (originally 400 Pontiac), M20, 3.55 Safety-trak, PDB, tach and gauge dash, rally steering wheel, Rally II wheels, bucket seats, and more. We have a fairly mild '70 455 in the car and it is quicker than our L78 Chevelle. Cars optioned like this are worth about half that of a similar big block Chevelle. Start the Lemans, and everyone looks. They just don't expect a Lemans to sound like that. This car gets as much attention as our Chevelle because it is a little unusual. There are lots of good cars out there that get overlooked. To many though, it just isn't a Chevelle, and that is the bottom line. If you just want a car for the summer and unload it in the fall, a Chevelle will move a lot quicker.

They are amazing trucks, but that's a little newer than I had in mind. I thought a lot about it last night and thought about all the 1st gen camaros around where I live (and they all have Z-28 or SS badges) and there are just as many Chevelles (mainly 1970-72 but of course most of them have SS badges). It's depressing to think about. But 1st gen Firebirds...few and far between around here. And no-one clones them (except for the 400). Maybe even 67-69 fastback cuda. I don't know what it is about those cars that arouse me. The problem I'm running into is that while I would prefer a 1st gen Z-28 or Chevelle SS, they are everywhere here and no one can tell original from clone.

So why buy a car that is legit to have it compared to those that are not? It's a sad world!
