Chicago Visit - Hotel/Area Reccomendation?

I may have to go to Chicago in July for a business trip and the family may come along to spend a few days in the area but we don't really want to be right downtown. Can anyone reccomend an area with hotels and maybe some shopping that is within a 30 minute drive to downtown that would be a nice place to stay for a few days? Thanks in advance https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Mark,

Rosemont, IL. area has lots of hotels and its near O`Hare Airport. As far as traffic goes....it`s terrible where every you stay in the Chicago metro area. Lot`s do to in Chicago in the summer....so check out a few Chicago events and travel websites for info. Welcome to Chicago https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

I stayed here a couple of years ago. Connected directly to the airport and you can also take the tram into downtown. Worked out very well for me and was also reasonable.

If you've never been....go to the Sears Tower. I was able to go in the John Hancock building (the tallest at the time when I lived there).

I've never been in the Sears Tower...LOL...but I hear it's pretty cool https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I like Rosemont also. Nice hotels and nice dining and you can take the train downtown with just a short walk from all hotels.

Thanks guys...Rosemont it is! We've just booked a hotel there and will now check to see what's in the area. The wife already saw an ad for Morton's https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

I just returned from a business trip to Chicago and I would highly recommend staying in the downtown area. There are a number of nicer hotels, Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Westin that are all pretty reasonable especially on the weekends. You will then be within walking distance or a short cab ride of most of the attractions that you will want to see, such as miracle mile shopping district, Navy Pier, etc.

I was fortunate to have a coctail reception on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building and the view was fantastic. I also had a meeting the next day in the Sears tower. I found the city much prettier and cleaner than I remembered it from about 5 years ago and the weather was fantastic.

Mark,

Morton`s is O.K. a better recommendation is Gibson`s Steak House or Rosebud....both located in Rosemont.
