Fire Takes a Batch of our Local Vintage Cars
Some friends lost their rides this week when one of the local two tier storage facilities went up in flames.I am not sure how many cars were lost but they say there was at least 16 vintage vehicles still in storage.I know a 57 chevy hardtop and 57 rag was there as well as a early 60's vette, 67 nova and a 340 duster. If there is any good news is the fact this building is usually full and just do toy the time of year many cars had been removed for the summer prior to the fire. One guy lost 5 rigs.

No sprinklers in a building like that? wow...

Re: Fire Takes a Batch of our Local Vintage Cars
-- My guess is looking at what is left of the building, it's old construction post dating sprinklers -- and a very expensive upgrade feature. Hope the land lord, and / or owners were all insured.

Ohhhh man...that soooooo sucks!.
I'm still living in a hotel and licking my wounds from my own house fire but know I'm lucky compared to these poor cats!. I see the '57 hdtp between the '80 and up Ford truck and what looks like a '70 Chrysler?. There's a chopped '48-52 Ford truck there also an MGB, a 58-60 Squarebird, an MX5 Miata...and is that a '66-67 Chevelle there too?. What a bummer...thankfully nobody's hurt but I'm so sorry for these guys and sure hope they've got some real insurance coverage!. ~ Pete |

Wow that sucks...
In the last pic you can see a car with a full roll cage...looks like a slight engine set back...where it was cut at the cowl area... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif |

There was a real sweet pro street 67 in the mix all you would see from the back was tires when it would go by.Had a killer small block also. Word is not all were insured in fact more were not insured than were and owner of the building is not responsible. That was made very clear when you stored a car there. I used that exact building for a impala for 2 years until I built a new barn. The owner is a super nice guy that just loved helping out us old car guys.He was not in it for the money that is for sure. I can just imagine how he feels. |
Re: Fire Takes a Batch of our Local Vintage Cars
What was the cause of the fire?

Re: Fire Takes a Batch of our Local Vintage Cars
Hi Rick:
They are not sure at this stage. Bottom floor was cement as were the 4 walls, roof was steel and no power in the building.Second floor and rafters were the only wood so there was not much to get a fire started. |
Re: Fire Takes a Batch of our Local Vintage Cars
I would make a guess that some mice were chewing on someone's electrical wiring in a car which did not have the battery dis-connected. Unless someone was trying to sell their car to the insurance company ?
