9 inch or Dana 60 ?

Considering building a sort of "pro touring" style car out of my 69 RS.Wondering what rear end to use between a Dana 60 and a 9 inch Ford. You see the 9 inch used all the time and occasionally the Dana.Does one have a advantage or disadvantage over the other and exactly what if so? Thanks in advance

I would run the 9". Easy to change pumpkins and I think the Dana 60 is a bigger, heavier unit that takes more hp to turn it.

I agree. The Dana is a heavy piece.

Concur with Charley. Dana 60s are nearly indestructible tho.

A ford part will slow your gm down, a mopar part will make it faster. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif....... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif Seriously though, I've got a 4.10 dana 60 in my 'Cuda and I must say, it is definately without a doubt one tough s.o.b. It laughs at 6K clutch dumps. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif I would run a dana 60.

I agree with the above posts, but if you're not going to be changing gears, and want a bullet proof setup, I would go with a properly built Dana 60. You won't kill it.

A Pro-touring style car won't hook up to where he would ever need a Dana though. I have two cars with 6 speed and 389 geared 9" rears and they have been fine.

Re: 9 inch or Dana 60 ?

No experience with a pro touring set up but years ago ran both set ups in a 70 chevy 454 ls6 mud bogger. Bottom line I could break the 9 inch and did many times but could not break the dana.If it took extra HP to drive it I never noticed.
Dana looks better also and gets more conversation especially from the hemi guys trying to figure out what it was out of.
Take care
