The hood on that car is worth 3/4 of the selling value

Look at the VIN#: 100008. Could be an assembly line pilot car. Definitely worth restoring.

Whttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gifW...quite the Vin!!!
Too bad it's so crusty but I'm sure someone will step up considering what it is..

Back to a topic we've covered here before and I know it's not always true, but if the front fender 427 emblems are original, does the black background usually indicate L36 and red ones the L72...or the other way around?.

Re: For you SS427 Impala lovers

I'm not an "expert," by any means, just a guy who has, back in the day, owned a few of these cars. There were, if memory serves me well, three different styles of 427 emblems used on the '68 front fenders.

1) "SS427" with the SS above the 427 numbers, both the letters and the numbers in a panel ahead of the marker light. These were the "early production" markers.

2) "427" with the numbers forward of the marker light. These were the "late production" markers.

3) The "427" rearward of the markers, with the red background, were used on Canadian cars, I have discovered. This may not be exclusively true, but all I have seen configured with the red background and with the numbers to the rear of the light, have been on Canadian cars.

I don't know if this will help your understanding, but the callouts really have nothing to do with whether the car has the L-36 or the L-72 rating.

Re: For you SS427 Impala lovers

the 68 SS427 I had was a Dec 67 build with the red markers from the get-go and was not a Canada car. It was sold new at Bill Heard in Columbus GA, first owner had the car 21 years, then I got it.
