Registering a 4-door to 2-door conversion?
 

Long story short, my wife's dad is giving us a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere II for a wedding present. He has the title but it hasn't been registered in 10 years. He just finished converting the car from a 4-door hardtop to a 2-door convertible and changed the color from blue to red. I know every state is a little different, but how do I register this car correctly. I assume I should get the title changed to say Red 2-door instead of Blue 4-door. Has anyone gone through this process and can give us some insight?

I have changed colors and engine size but never the number of doors. That may raise a few questions at your motor vehicle dept (unless they are sleeping and you tell them it was an error on the previous title). I would want to know if that car can handle the hemi considering most convertibles had significant heavy duty frames.

BTW nice ride. hard to believe it was a four door. was there a donor convert body?

I could use a restored Hemi convertible too !!!!

Her parents had this car when my wife was born and she rode home in this car as a newborn so it has a lot of sentimental value. The car was not stored properly and the whole bottom half rotted away. About 10 years ago her dad got a 4-door hardtop car as a donor car basically. Since they used about 75% of the 4-door car including the cowl and front clip, he kept the 4-door vin. This car isn't just thrown together, they welded in a lot of reinforcements and subframe connectors. Also, it's a 1955 DeSoto 291 Hemi, not a 426, so the horsepower is about 350. We have about 400 pics of the build so hopefully we won't have a problem with the DMV.

Your father in law did a very fine job. That's a sharp car. I figured it was an old hemi. Distributors in the wrong end for a 426. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
