69 L89 Block on E-bay
What is you thoughts on this Block? Should the vin# be on the engine pad with a Dec. built motor? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 69 L89 Block on E-bay
366xxx vin would fall right into a KC built chevelle, not 69 camaro. Closest chevelle 4 bolt code is KF,it doesnt share the code with a camaro. Email the seller if you are interested,he did say he wasnt sure about the numbers as they are sometimes hard to read.

That E looks like it was an F in a previous life. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: 69 L89 Block on E-bay
Can't be a Chevelle block with a Norwood code, though. Unless the seller misread the plant code in the vin stamp too...

Re: 69 L89 Block on E-bay
or changed that somehow

Re: 69 L89 Block on E-bay
Knappy,
I agree with 'musclecarkid' on the 'F' turned 'E'. A 'KF' code is 396/375 4 bbl., special high performance and a Turbo 400 in a Chevelle. A "KE' code is 396/375 4 bbl., special high performance, manual transmission and aluminum heads in a Camaro. The VIN would fit in nicely on a Camaro if the '3' in the VIN were misread and should be a '5'. 19N<u>5</u>66287 would be a mid-December production car (December, 1968 production N555000 through N570000). If you are serious about this block, I would go with 'Rainer's' idea that the seller misread the VIN. Give him a call...magnifying glasses do wonders! Good luck and keep us posted. L.Z. |

I thought Norwood vin# were on the engine pad until around the first of Jan. then they were stamped by the oil filter. This is an early Dec. block.

[/ QUOTE ] Knappy, There appears to be a hint of the VIN on the far left of the eBay pic (near the brown 'spot'). On big blocks, the Tonowanda production date is on the left and the VIN stamp on the right. Once again, give the guy a call and tell him to hit it with some muratic acid. That will make those characters crystal clear. <font color="blue">L.Z.</font> |
