If a 69 camaro car was ordered radio delete - did they still install the speaker in the front dash? Anything else they did not do when this was ordered - besides the radio delete plate?

No speaker; a cardboard cover taped to the underside of the speaker grille as shown on page 1 section B2 of the AIM. Also the hole for the antenna lead in the cowl was plugged.

Thank you for the info. So if i believed i had an original fender on a car with the antenna hole in it - i should assume a radio was installed?

There was no antenna hole in the fender on a radio delete car, just a plug in the door jamb/cowl area where the antenna cable would pass through and a cardboard speaker cover, as William mentioned. If its defintely the original fender, and an original antenna hole, it had a radio. Look closely at the hole though, as alot of radio delete cars ended up with aftermarket radios and antennas later on.

Joe, thanks for the info - when you say look closely at the hole - is there something special with the hole i should notice. I was told that orig fenders with the antenna hole have the circle with a notch in it. Is this what your referring to?

I bought a new '65 Chevy II radio still in the box many years ago. It had all the ground straps plus two spiral pieces that fit inside the front hub dust caps. Something about grounding the hub to the spindle. There were also some capacitors/condensers for static suppression. I think Bill is right about the ground straps as I don't recall any off the back of our engine to the firewall. I don't remember the exact details any more. I am suprised all of that info would not be in the assembly manual. I know it is for 65-70 fullsize.
Shows exactly what to add and where when installing any of the optional radios so easy to figure out what came with a delete car

I know this tread refers directly to Camaros but I had a '68 Corvette with no radio. I still have the 'build sheet' from the top of the fuel tank and it was definitely a radio delete car. No ignition shielding under the hood, no braided plug wire covers, no speakers, the block off plate in the dash,................... but the car came with an antenna and the coax run under the console to the dash.
I bought the car in December of '71 and talked with the original owner. He told me he NEVER had a radio in ANY of his Corvettes. His earlier cars ('58 & '62) received record players and his '64 and up cars had tape decks. He traded the '68 for a '72 and still, no radio.
He told be he was upset with the dealer when he first saw the '68 because he noticed the antenna on the car as he drove on the lot and assumed it had a radio. He asked if they could remove the antenna but finally decided to leave it rather than patch the hole in the rear deck and have the panel repainted.
