hey guys. i'm looking to find someone who was stationed there in 72-73. the reason i ask is that my dads 69 SS Impala 427 vert has a sticker on the windshield that shows the car was there in 72-73. also there are faint remenants of a "Cherry Point N.C." bumper sticker on the rear bumper. were trying to research the cars history and so far have it back to 1977 and this could be the breakthrough were looking for. the car is 69 SS Impala Garnet Red, parchment interior, auto, convertible.

Good clues. If u can post a photo of windshield sticker and the rear bumper sticker that would be helpful - may be more subtle info there that I can help u with. I was at the Point from 88 to 93. Probably still a few folks around there who were working or stationed there in 72-73. CP is home of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing as well as Marine Aircraft Group 14. Other MAGs have come and gone over the years. They would have been flying Sky Hawks (A-4s OA-4s) Intruders (A-6) and Phantoms (F-4) back in that time. There is also the MC's largest Aviation Depot for major overhaul of MC aircraft. You may wish to see if there are any websites associated with these organizations. The orgs have changed names over the years, i.e. the depot is now called a Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP) but used to be called a Naval Aviation Refurb Facility (NARF). Start googling and see where it takes you and feel free to let me see what u come up with so I can help steer you in your quest.

here is the sticker. as you well know flashes and glass dont mix well together. on the shield (the part that is left)the state name wraps around the top (which is obviously gone) and comes down the right hand side where all that is legible is "na". thank goodness the bumper sticker has "Cherry Point, N.C." which let us know the "ia" was the last 2 letters of Carolina. i'll get the bumper sticker pic on here, first we have to unwrap it cause dad had it sold and headed out of state via ebay.

the back window was busted out from previous owners nephew taking pot shots with the 22. this is the result of overlapping tarps incorrectly.

You said in your first post that it was a 69 SS427 Impala convertible but I see it has drum brakes. Do you have any documentation on the car? Not calling it fake, the reason I am asking is I purchased a 335 hp 427 out of a '69 SS427 Custom Coupe in the early 80's. Not only was it a 335 hp, but it too had drum brakes though both were said to have not been available with the Z24 option. Somewhere I have the POP for the car that I got the engine out of and it would just be nice to know that maybe the literature is wrong and drum brakes could be had as well as the 335 hp. i guess some clarification is in order.

1. the rear bumper was sold on ebay but hasnt been shipped yet. i will unrap it and snap a photo of the bumper sticker.

2. Rick, the drums your seeing are from the 70 that is the parts car. notice that the frame is out from under the 70. the 69 has the front disc's. the 69's frame has been blasted and is sitting in my dads basement getting everything put back on. if you look under the photo i had labeled it "70 parts car and frame". should of phrased it frame for 70 parts car. hope this clears things up!

Still no luck tracking down the prior owner of the SS. Does anyone know of a person who was at Cherry Point around 72-73? I would assume anyone who was a "car guy" would remember what was all in the parking lot.

I was with VMAT (AW) 202, the local A-6 rag outfit at MCAS Cherry Point in 74 - 75 and was driving a '73 Z at the time. I would have remembered a car like that, but that is a big, spread out place. They were just starting to bring crated AV-8A's in from the UK in that time frame, plus the local NARF on base was busy with aircraft coming out of SEA, so there were people everywhere. There were at least six squadrons of active aircraft, plus H&MS, H&MMS, and all the support people, warehouses, etc. Big place.
