68 z/28 owners please respond
I'm trying to gain some knowledge about the "correct" ignition coil used in these cars.
According to J MacNeish the coils came with 202 BR stamps. I 'believe' this was the case for early cars & wondered if the coils changed to the 270 BR coils later in the production year. The same as flat hood '69 Z's My car is June built & want o find this out ASAP. So.... what have you guys got on your '68's & please add the build month. Thanks in advance, Rob |

Re: 68 z/28 owners please respond
John,
You're right & I'm definitely not an expert. There's probably no such animal as a 202 BR. Your coil would look great on my engine....https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif On ebay the other evening a Corvette resto company had New GM (Delco) 202 coils for $69.99 BUY it now. In the pic it looks identical to yours....maybe the way to go. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I tried to look it up to add a link but now I can't find it, typical... I'm looking forward to hearing from other guys. Thanks, Rob |
Re: 68 z/28 owners please respond
I have a 293BR coil on my 69Z.Don't know if that is correct for my car,but the BR is on it, so maybe there is a 202BR.

Re: 68 z/28 owners please respond
From what I have learned, the 293 was for a NON cowl hood car and the 270 is for a cowl hood car. This was told to by Larry Christensen in Colorado.

Re: 68 z/28 owners please respond
And to finish that statement the 69 Z/28's w/flat hoods had the 298 coil. Remember the coil number really designates the coil bracket used for what type hood. I can give you a guys email address if you need further info. He has it in pictures and may have the bracket/coil you need. Sam

Re: 68 z/28 owners please respond
Sam,
I believe you're right. 298 is the coil I think came on late '68 z/28's (just couldn't remember the #!) From what I understand, which could be wrong, the 293 coil was the standard V8 coil. small or big block. On some Corvettes & SHP cars the General used "high speed coils"? like the 270, 202, 298 & probably others. I think correct coils is an area without a lot of information. |

Re: 68 z/28 owners please respond
I got an email from a guy named John Karvonen with his phone #.
His email says he had 3 68 z/28's so I gave him a call (906 area code). His '68's were an early build (late '67) that came with the 202 coil & 2 later (June & July) built cars with the 298 coil. His June built car was made the next week following mine! That's good enough for me, thanks to John & all who responded |
