COPO 427 engine value??
Hey guys, a buddy of mine scored at an estate sale with an original 1968(?) COPO 427. We checked the numbers and everything is right. Block, heads, intake manifold and exhaust manifolds. Apparently it had been rebuilt or freshened up fairly recently and fired right up, runs and sounds great. Any ideas on value? There not selling it but we're wondering just for kicks. They want to run headers and a tunnel ram which I think is a bad move for the engine from a historical point of view, but it's theres... Any thoughts?

Casting numbers and dates as well as the numbers on the front pad are needed to determine the valve.

Dean...If you want to spend a few mins, look through the parts for sale section on the site. There have been a few listed here and you can get a pretty good idea of what they are worth.

Re: COPO 427 engine value??
Hopefully you mean a 69 dated COPO 427 motor. What are the casting #'s, dates and engine code on the pad? That information will help determine what it is for sure. Also, look for a partial VIN in the rough cast vertical area by the oil filter.

Re: COPO 427 engine value??
I dont have the full numbers off hand but I know it was the COPO "MN" code on the front pad. They checked out the other numbers as well and they spec'd out I guess...

Re: COPO 427 engine value??
Was 'MN' used in '68 as an RPO?

Re: COPO 427 engine value??
The '68 part is probably from casting dates?.
Is it a 512 block...and is there a distrib there too, & the #'s?. Can you lay all the stamped info on us?. The closest BB suffix to be confused could be the MH which was an L36 Vette motor...I believe all other MN's were SB?. As far as the $ value question goes, ChucKing probably has a better idea than anyone on what these actually will reach?. Important is retrieving and providing the Vin as mentioned above as this could prove interesting also have an impact on the value?. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: COPO 427 engine value??
Wouldn't a 68 big block COPO motor be one-of-one?

Re: COPO 427 engine value??
MN would be a 69 motor. Was the casting date late 68 or is possible you're looking at a "9" in the casting and seeing it as an "8"? We definitely need more information to help out. That being said, an MN coded motor in CT would make me think Scuncio. Did you check for the partial VIN down along the flange by the oil filter?

Re: COPO 427 engine value??
What estate auction was it and where? Was it in a Car or engine by itself?
