It's so true. Everybody gets all "energy savings" and puts in these light bulbs. Like the guy said, they have mercury in them! You almost have to call a hazmat team to cleanup the mess if they break or take the dead ones to a recycling place. I won't be using those bulbs. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

Before you totally condem these screw in flourecent bulbs, let me ask this question.
How have all of you guys been disposing fo those 4' and 8' lamps ? Recycling them I am sure https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif Ever drop one in the house or work shop ?
Even your little drop light with the 13W lamp in it should be recycled.
Just something to think about.

Yep, you are right Mike! When we were working at Merck and Company or any other big drug companies if you or any of your crew was caught breaking or disposing these lamps in the wrong areas or containers, got were fired on the spot. Must be recycled like any other gasous products.

Re: Unscrew America .org is ....

Wonder how much extra energy is needed to produce the special bulbs???How much extra energy it takes to recycle them????? How much added pollution is created by mishandling them???? I for one would like to see a true comparison from start to finish before I make up my mind.

Oh and lets not forget the Chinese sweat shop stuff and unfair labor practices and ALL the other stuff???

That what we need to do is make MORE products with mercury. We are already getting chinas lead we might as well have their Mercury.

Re: Unscrew America .org is ....

That's soo true. We went through all this bulb mercury crap through the late '70s early '80s. I think the same dopes who wanted to outlaw them then, are pushing them now. Besides the clean-up, how much energy/pollution does it take to produce them and how much is used just to ship them here? Besides, they're not natural light. Don't mind them at work but don't want them at home.

By they way.. ask the people (political position holding people) who proudly changed to these bulbs what they did with their old bulbs. They probably threw them out instead of donating them or waiting for them to burn out. Maybe they should push energy conservation and useful ideas for a range of people instead of a money making scheme.

I do recycle all the bulbs I use. Electronics, newspapers, junk mail, anything. I take dead batteries (even watch batteries) to keep them out of landfills.
