Maybe there was some variation on the plating used on these front disc rotor shields.....I have originals from 2 '70 Oldsmobile Abody cars and they are absolutely galvanized. Same thing for a '72...

I'll see if I have a proper sized Torx socket tomorrow and I'll try it on an '70 original Olds striker as well as a pair of NOS strikers I have.

There's really no way to nicely repair those pieces if they are dried out, chalky, etc. Sure, you can try covering them w/vinyl but now the grain pattern is incorrect.

It's the lack of the "Service With Delco Parts"...

It's the lack of the "Service With Delco Parts" lettering that makes it "incorrect". Both covers have the J1703 wording.

I think these "General Motors Delco Moraine" covers came along after 1972...

Time (meaning deterioration of the plating) and beadblasting "wipes out" the distinctive flake appearance on these. It all depends on how "weak" the galvanizing was before you worked on the shields....
