ok, I ran into this problem before with a customers 67. I ended up taking a 6ft prybar with a tape covered end so as to not damage the paint and wedging it in between the frame and the engine bracket...

I use the Edelbrock replacement foam for their triangle style open element air cleaners. I use 2 filters and glue them together edge to edge with black 3M weatherstrip adhesive, you dont need much!!....
