Re: parts prices holding versas cars ?
Just happened to come on this (which to me really nails it and actually relates to value of these blocks).
From Covette Forum (great read - "Really? Original Motor?".)
The last 2 lines of last thread post nails it and really says it all:
"You can not really restamp a block that can not be detected.
Matching numbers used to mean orginal engine. Now the only thing that means orginal engine is the words orginal engine."
-------------
(You can not really restamp a block that can not be detected) = earlier in thread:
"What seems to be forgotten is that all these restamps can be detected by the process that Al Grenning has developed (looking at the continuity of the broach marks)."
-----------------
So , In general (and as far as i'm concerned) all this BS block stamping of the last 25 years . Has really only done one thing - RUIN a bunch of good original blocks ability of being reunited with original bodies!!
If a block restamp can always be detected - then a dated block is worth far less $ than people believe.
It is truly only worth big $ - to the owner of a certain car - IF that car exists & it's original stamping is still present in the block.
