Default Re: Significant 1969 Muscle Cars

[ QUOTE ]
A watershed year, for sure. A favorite year of mine, as I was born that summer

For Mopar, I think you have to have an A12 car, as they really are the epitome of street performance and the influence of the culture coming around and influencing the manufacturers. I prefer the Super Bees, but I have a hard time arguing against a Hemi Daytona. So I vote for a 1969-1/2 Road Runner 440 6bbl. Preferably a 4sp in Rally Green.

For Ford, its easy to pick a Boss 429 Mustang. That motor is awesome. (But I think a 428SCJ Mach 1 is probably the more significant car. Ford's best street motor with the first year of the iconic Mach 1 model makes for a tough combo) Maybe a Boss 429 and a Talladega (all were 428CJ)?

For Mercury, you need a 428CJ Cougar Eliminator (1st year Eliminator pkg) or Cyclone Spoiler. A Spoiler II (ala Talladega) would complement your Daytona in the aero wars display, but I think they were all 351/FMX auto cars, which is kind of a letdown given the swoopy body. As for Boss 429 Cougars, I believe only one is found (in pieces) and its been "awaiting restoration" for over a decade.

Buick-Stage 1 (1st year for that) 4sp ragtop is about the best you can do, but '70 has to be considered their peak, both in styling and performance.

Olds-Hard to beat the H/O. Although I do love a nice black W30 4sp car.

Chevy-ZL1, especially that loaded RS Camaro or one of the Vettes. All the COPOS are worthy, but ZL1 is really the epitome of a '69 only option.

AMC- 2nd on the Hurst built SS AMX. Close second would be the Rambler SC/Rambler. Both potent and quite an eyeful AND '69 only.

Pontiac-Hard to argue with your T/A ragtop selection, but at a public show, my money would be on an Orbit Orange RAIV GTO Judge (1st year) getting more attention, and being more distinctively "1969".

A Mod Top w/matching interior Mopar would be a good addition as well. That's REALLY 1969.

Good luck

One clarification - Orbit Orange was indeed gorgeous, but it was a 1970 color. The color you're likely thinking about for 1969 is Carousel Red. My vote is for a CR 1969 RAIV hardtop Judge, M21, 4.33s.
