Let me give you the perspective of what I have seen doing Corvettes for close to 30 years. Powder coating is nice but it usually has to "thick" of a look and you lose definition on the stamping marks that happen in production. What alot of folks like is just a coat of self etching prime or epoxy to seal the bare metal, then fix the dents and reprime the fixed spots then a coat of thinned epoxy as a sealer and final paint. If you are careful and take your time you will still have the original production marks left. This is what I would concider the original "factory look".
On the other hand I have also worked in a shop in the 80's that did nothing but pebbel beach cars (dusenburgs and the likes) and they primed and filled every imperfection to make ever part look as nice as the outside.
So you need to make the decision of ...Am I over restoring the car or going for the factory look.
