The people telling you to "pay him already" probably have much deeper pockets than some of us other enthusiasts. I've been in that situation where something is "two mortgage payments" as well.
Perhaps he has additional items he can offer to make the $2,000 worth your effort. Ask if he has an original dealer plate or badging. How about some original sales brochures or other items pertaining to the dealership in general. That way you can recoup some of your costs.
