Re: SPOOF PHONE CALL
My wife had something similar while I was out of town. She was trying to get some on-line training done with work and was talking to tech support. They got into the computer and re-configured a few settings. She got her training done and before she knew it, the computer wasn't working right and a message popped up to call some 800 number. She did and was put in touch with some overseas guy who she let get into the computer as well. When the guy said it would be $600 to fix it, she balked and he lowered the price to $250, but when she realized the shake-down to get big money to "fix" the computer she hung up on the guy. That was the last time the computer worked. I had my tech brother try to re-boot it with no luck. I could not read any files of anything that was hooked up to the computer. I believe he left us with a little souvenir virus.
Anyhow, I have a bunch of pix that I still cannot get back to. Luckily most of the saved photos from that last 15 years or so have been backed up on external devices. I installed a new drive and regenerated the computer from back up discs.
What a PITA.
Phil.
