The Great Sphinx of Giza is a giant limestone statue in Egypt that depicts a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a person. It is one of the oldest and largest monuments in human history, but no one knows for sure who built it or why it is missing a key facial feature. Paint residue found near one ear also suggests the Sphinx was not always tan, but instead, covered in color.
