Default Re: Where are the Deuces?

Thanks for the kudo's!

I like the car with the stripes, but actually prefer the COPO/sleeper look more. I restored it back to COPO style first because it was the only chance I would have to really see what it looked like when Yenko received it. I also wanted to put the stripes on the car after the installation of the moldings, bumpers, seals, and emblems so that the stripes would not be 'overdone', and placed in areas that would have been inaccessible to Yenko's 'child-laborers'.

Speaking of 'overdone', I believe that these cars were far from perfect when they were new, and had numerous paint flaws, misaligned body panels, sloppy trunks, various sealer drippings, uneven overspray applications, the list goes on...

I purposely restored the car to include these flaws because that is the way that I wanted it - it is not over-restored. (I know some people think it's crazy!). I restored this car for me, not for an unnamed judge, a plastic trophy, nor to re-sell it. I performed every aspect of the restoration myself, with the exception of machining the engine, and sewing the new front seat cover. I can't wait to start another one, if I can find one.

My best compliment at a show was when a spectator looked at it for about 10 minutes, and then asked me if it was restored. A low mile, original paint, supercar like the Supercar Workshop's Harrell and Yenko are what everyone looks for, but when you have to restore one - those are the types of cars to research and copy.

If I had a box trailer/tow vehicle, and a few extra vacation days - I would be in Collinsville for the reunion. Hopefully, next year!! I'm looking for cheap airfare for this year's show.
