My first car was a 1972 Nova SS which I still own. When I was 15 our family was entering a shopping center driveway and I saw a Chevy (donĂt remember what model) with a śSS” emblem in the grill. I asked my Dad what śSS” meant and he told me and I knew I wanted one, it just looked cool. I drove my Dad crazy looking for Nova SS. My DadĂs system of price negotiation (offer half of the asking price!!!) made it nearly impossible for me to buy a car. We finally found one, after almost a year.
I did not have too many run-ins with the local police but one time I was waiting at a traffic light and 280z pulled next me with two guys in the car. After a brief conversation, decided to give the cars a little run. The light dropped and we both took off fast. When I shifted into second gear I happened to look in the rear view mirror and a police car was RIGHT behind us!! Of course he pulled us over and lectured us about racing but did not give us a ticket. I guess he figured our stupidity was punishment enough!!
