Default Re: I am new here, and i need some help.

Welcome to the board. The GTO was considered by many to be the first true musclecar, combining a large engine in a relatively small car body.

The years 68 and 69 reflected the true "coke bottle" shape of the GTO. In both years the engines were 400 cubic inches. The actual horsepower varied depending on the different engine components. For example, there were Ram Air engines which had hotter cams, heads and other performance items. The "hot ticket" for the 1969 year was the Ram Air IV rated at I believe 366 horsepower which was a joke. This engine was absolutely dynamite. Also, few people realize there was a two barrel carburetor version available in these years which was really set up as a highway cruiser.

The GTO has a tremendous heritage and the Pontiac owners are a great bunch of people. Also, General Motors utilized the GTO to introduce a number of new automotive features over the years. The most common of those would be the urathene (?) bumper first introduced on the 68 model.

These machines are quite commonly referred to as "Goats". If you check out my website below you will see some pics and details of a couple of Goats I have had in recent years.

Hope this helps and good luck in your search.
