Default Re: New Camaro Price Question.

The best way to identify a real SS is by the GM RPO label on the inside of the drivers door by the latch. On 1996 and 1997 SS's, the RPO code is R7T, which is really a process code for the ship through process. SLP owned the parts and pieces and the program was pretty much theirs.

In 1998, the SS package became a GM option, no more SLP's program or parts. The new GM option code was changed to WU8. The SLP optioned cars will also have a Y2Y code next to the WU8. That code was something GM wanted to add to any SLP optioned cars so they could track how many cars came with the SLP options internally. The problem in 1998 and 1999 was if the dealer didn't order their SS with the Y2Y code then Chevrolet would NOT allow them or SLP to add any options while at SLPs plant. We as reps told dealers to add the Y2Y to every order so they could add the options from SLP before it was built by SLP. But, many dealers added the Y2Y and never ordered any options, so the Y2Y can be confusing. Look in the passenger side door for a SLP decal with the SLP options printed on it. That SLP decal was the only SLP sticker on the cars from 1998 to 2002, unless I think you got the Synthetic Oil option and then you got a SLP Quaker State sticker under the hood. We also added many SLP options at the dealer level where we would send them parts and the dealer would install the SLP options that the car didn't come with from the Factory after SLP built it. Hope this helps . . .
