Re: GoodGuys 2004 muscleCar of the Year
Everyone take a deep breath! I am the owner of the 69 Camaro that won the Good Guys Muscle Car of the year award. The show was awesome!! More eye candy than you can take in one day. I would like to respond to Collin by saying that his car is indeed outstanding, why it was not in the final five is beyond me!! I myself, questioned as to how the five finalists were chosen as there were many great cars that were "overlooked". Lets not forget that Good Guys is a hot rod club ( I am a member), not a muscle car club. Missing from the show were Hemi Cudas, Royal Pontiacs, Ford Lightweights, ZL1s, "Real" Yenkos .....were do I stop?? None the less, as with any car show that is not a "points" show....it will come down to the judge(s) opinion, tastes, likes, dislikes, etc... Now, for the facts. I had dozens of people give me compliments on how nice my car was... I too, could have bought a couple of brats if I had a nickle for everyone who told me I had the best car in the show. I told EVERYONE that talked to me about the car that is was a clone, including the photographer from good guys (before the judging had occurred), as well as the other finalists. I was not out Bull----ing people during the show or after as to the authenticity of my car. I do not have some plastic board in front of the car stating that it is a real Yenko. I did not give an acceptance speach at all, I mearly stated that it took me three years to build the car to get it to the present state. I will only say that my car is awesome!! I say that not to brag, but, because I am proud of the way the car turned out after a three year resto. For what its worth, I also won BEST DETAILED CAR and BEST YENKO of the Super Chevy Show in Joliet. A fellow syc member who owns a Jack Douglas Yenko (neat car!) was at the show... he complimented on how nice the car was. I understand the frustration of many fortunate guys who own numbers matching original cars....but lets face it guys, there are more "would be owners" of muscle cars than there are cars available. I would hate to think unless you have $50K+ to spend that you are relagated to driving a slant six Duster (sorry Mopar guys)?? I will be the first in line to say "string em up" to those who try and sell a clone as an original car, we all know someone that has been burned badly....that bad taste is tough to get rid of. Did'nt mean to get long winded, just wanted to clear the air. Hope I did'nt step on anyones toes??
