Default Re: 70 SS Body Tag, Vin Plate, Firewall Stamp Question

Thanks for all of the replies thus far.

I have tried to locate a number in the recessed area above the fuel filler but have not found a number yet, maybe a little more scraping to remove the sound deadener etc.

I decided to strip the firewall with a spray can of stripper. The stripper quickly removed all of the black paint to reveal over the tunnel two distinct markings where the metal is more shiny than the surrounding area. It looks like a kid wrote on the firewall directly above the tunnel with a crayon "13637" and "ZL3". Also at the top recess of the tunnel there is also a what appears to have been written "021" I got some photos of this to show the contrast of the metal and the location.

The build sheet does call for the ZL3 conversion.

I could find no stampings on the outside of the firewall except some numbers on the brace that the fender bolts to near the top and it was marked something like 23. The lower brace that includes the front body mount has some numbers stamped on it as well but only a couple digits, maybe 4 or so. I assume these were part numbers for the individual components prior to welding together.

As I mentioned I cannot find a number on the rear but then again the storage facility has no lights. A flashlight and a piece of sandpaper were not producing results in the dark.

Thanks for the comment on the rivets.

Regards,

Kip
