Default '65 Impala SS dash question???

I recently purchased an all original, 63,000 mile '65 Impala SS from the 84 year old original owner. It's a 327/250hp, M-20, 3.31 posi car and it has been garage kept all its life, and according to the owner, never spent a single night outdoors. Always in a heated garage and always well cared for.

I was not in the market for this car, but a friend had been trying to buy it for years and when the original owner agreed to sell it, my friend was not in a position to buy it. He called me and asked if I was interested. I agreed to go look at it, and well, you know the rest. After seeing such a pristine, absolutely original car, 100% unrestored, I had to have it so I agreed to buy it.

I don't know everything about '65 Impala Super Sports, but I do know they are supposed to have aluminum dash trim. This car has the woodgrain trim you would find on a Caprice. I asked the owner about it and he and his wife both state they never touched it and it came that way when they bought it new.

Has anyone ever heard or seen of this happening? Thank you.
