Don’t forget there’s a number of places with search and seizure laws that let the police keep your confiscated cash for just suspecting its ill-gotten. Since they get to keep the money sometimes they don’t try very hard to prove otherwise. On the other hand, I don’t mind a concerned bank manager asking about elderly or vulnerable people withdrawing money on a potential scam. Hell I had a call that had me running around trying to buy Visa gift cards (don’t ask) to somehow deal with a fake legal problem. The scammer was smooth enough it took the questioning of a cashier (“are you sure this is real”) to snap me out of it.
