.... is actually a phenome..fenomen....phe...er, a trick on the eyes. What you're seeing is a shadow from a ridge of trees on top of a large hill creating a shadow against the sunrise.
How cool is that!? Waaaaaaaay cool! And this only happens this time of the year right before the Winter Solstice. Any other time the, the mountain is away from the sunrise and you don't get that shadow. Sort of like how the Maya planned their junk around, but on a totally non-related and similar scale.
