Default New to me 1996 Carrera

It took a while, but I finally found a nice clean tippy 993! As some know, I’ve owned 4 previous 993’s (5 if you count buying one back after selling it), but the manual clutch caused my hip bursitis to flair up at times and it just wasn’t enjoyable on longer drives.

I saw the car at 9:15 Sunday evening, just shortly after it was posted on the PCA website and by 10:15 I had a tentative deal pending a positive ppi. Ran the Carfax and all clean, did a little history search and found that the current owner and previous owner since 2002 were Rennlisters. Monday morning I tried to get Porsche Plano to do a PPI, but they have stopped doing them. Searched Rennlist and reached out to a friend for another recommendation in Dallas and both came back with Mayos Performance. I made quick call and had a nice chat with Amy and she said that she would squeeze me in the following morning. Knowing that others were trying to scoop the car by offering more without a PPI and that a round trip to Mayo’s was going to take 5-6 hours, I offered the owner $500 to take it there for me to compensate him for his time and inconvenience. He was great to work with throughout the process and agreed without hesitation.

The car came back with excellent mechanical and interior condition, excellent body, glass and operations, and very good original paint (some ‘patina’ commensurate with age). Mayos was super to deal with and did a 3.5 hour inspection that was very detailed including paint meter and alignment check. All the car needs is a slight alignment, which I had planned to do when I put 18 inch wheels on it. I wired the money on Wednesday afternoon and now I just have to wait on the shipping company!

The car turned 36,000 miles on the return trip from the PPI, Polar Silver with black interior, and of course, the Tiptronic S transmission. I plan to put a set of 18 inch twists on it and replace the aged stone guards and then enjoy!
