Unless things have changed, Ontario Vanity plate can NOT change owners or be sold.

So when you sold your 1970 Nova L78, say the new owner WANTED that plate! He could buy it off you for display purposes, but he can't have the car registered with the plate he bought off you.

I know my 1961 YEAR OF MANUFACTURE PLATE now stays registered to me forever? I sold that car in 2018 and still had like 3/4's of the year left on the "sticker". I inquired about the balance on that "sticker" with the ministry. They said I could transfer it, but it also meant LOSING the plates even though I own them. Also said that 1961 plate number stays with me now forever as the province doesn't reissue plate number or sayings.
