This car sold at Mecum Monterey for 150K. This seems like peanuts for one of these cars? Or was it just right place right time for the buyer combined with a hard-up seller?
I think this is the Tim(?) Thorpe car that went up against a 427 Cobra in a Muscle Car Review story in the 80s or was that car a roadster? http://mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail...D=CA0809-82538 Can someone provide some explanation? Condition? Thanks.

I remember that MuscleCar Review Shootout with the 427 Cobra. I've got that magazine boxed up somewhere downstairs and I can't quite recall either if the 'Vette was a Coupe or Roadster but I do remember that it was running 11.80's on (I'm pretty sure) M&H DOT tires. I can remember that because my L-88 was running 11.70's at the same time so I seemed to be right on with the tune.

11.70s? wow... Just checked my collection. It was April 1991 MCR and the car was a convertible, so it isn't the same L88.

There were a number of factors that led to the low selling price. First, the car while it appears nice enough really needs to be restored if you are going to show it. With frame offs approaching and sometimes surpassing six figures that was one factor. Another issue was that the car does not have its original motor which impacts the value a great deal on these cars. Third the seller wanted to sell and the car went on the block late so that usually does not favor the seller.
BTW, the Tim Thorpe car was an unrestored convertible. It is now owned by a good friend of mine and the car is unreal!
