The guy has it advertised as an Acadian Beaumont. I thought an Acadian was the Canadian Nova and the Beaumont was the Chevelle. Am I confused or is he?

You're correct also so is he being the answer is both!!!

I grew up w/ them here in Canada and yes it's confusing but w/ some exceptions think of the 62-65 Chevy-2 style Acadians w/ the top model line including Beaumont trim also the 64/65 A-Body Beaumonts including Acadian markings too!.
Things settled down for '66 and up w/ Acadians being the Chevy-2 cars and the A-Body cars being the Beaumonts..

Unlike Chevelles and Novas, L78's were not available as an RPO in any year Beaumont or 69-70 and up Acadian w/ the L34 the top dog although it's possible some L78 cars were factory built?.
And no '68 Acadian 'Gibb Copo L78/M40' cars either!.

Of interest too is L79 '66 Acadian (Chevy-2's) were built also I believe as 67's too but very few if so?.

There's been rumors of factory built '65 Z16 Beaumonts and '69 Beaumont Copo L72 cars over the years but as much as I know nothing concrete has ever surfaced on these?.

Again and as mentioned in previous threads here, 427 Beaumont (and maybe Acadian) Dealer transplants were built and delivered by a few dealers, Conroy and their 'Cheetah' cars for one!.
Which dealer built cars were L72 or L36 or even L78 equipped (again no L78 factory cars were available) is largely unclarified also to confuse things further some Conroy Cheetah cars were built and delivered w/ SBC's too!.

Included in the above don't miss the fact that 'Dealer built L72 A-Body cars were delivered in '66 and/or '67 model years...maybe other years too!.

Lastly, although sold at Pontiac dealers neither Acadians or Beaumonts were actually Pontiacs (regardless of being noted as such on GM Canada Vintage Services paperwork)!.

I've seen that car. It is a very nice rare car. The owners, Joe and Suzie Lizon, are members of the Canadian Poncho forum. They have a 2nd 65 L-79 that they are/were restoring.
Pete, thanks for posting that info. As you said, there are no documented L-78, L-72 or Z-16 factory built Beaumonts. There weren't a lot of big block Beaumonts built and no big block Acadians. A member here, BeaumontBill, has a couple Beaumont SD convertibles and a 66 L-79 Acadian. Below are pictures of this 65 SD and Bills cars.

GM Canada numbers show there were only 23 L79 Acadian Beaumonts built in 1965. That includes both hardtops and convertibles, but there's no breakdown on how many of each. In 1966, the Acadian name was dropped from the Beaumont and it became a model unto itself. Thank goodness for that, because having both Chevelle and Chevy II type Acadians was becoming very confusing.

There were a total of 63 L79's in the 1966 Chevy II type Acadian (198 L79 Chevy IIs were also built in Canada). Again, there is no breakdown by model, but most were Canso Sport Deluxes. Bill Wertheim's is one of the only known benchseat Acadian Canso Sport Coupes known to still exist and there's an L79 Acadian Invader 2 door sedan in Ontario. There were no L79 Acadians built in 1967. Because so few were built, any existing Canadian L79 Chevy II, Acadian or Acadian Beaumont is a rare car.
