Seems that an AMX was to be the pace car for the California Riverside 500 race, and these were dealer promo cars. Sorta like a 69 Z11 Camaro but not nearly as popular.

Unfortunately, the only thing unique to these Big Bad Green '69 AMX's is that metal plaque. Nothing else. I've owned a lot of '68 thru '70 AMX's, including Big Bad colored cars, I helped document the Breedlove AMX's, Hurst SS AMX's, Donohue Javelins, Trans Am Javelins and so on. These 500 specials are just a very small part of AMC's history and unfortunately didn't include any special performance enhancements or unique exterior schemes beyond the metal plaque.

I sold one in 06 at Barrett, at the time it was the highest price ever paid for a amx. Sold for 56,000 plus comissions. It was sold again this past summer by R&M and only brought in the 30's. I got mine from 2 guys who are very big in the AMX world, they spent many years gathering nos parts. I think there cool cars but you will spend a fortune buying parts, buy one done and documented and youll save money...

They were hired by AMC (68? )and had their own bolt on parts. Hood roll bar etc ??
