Re: 1970 442 Convertible Project
There is enough there to establish validity of being one of 549 factory built 4 speed 442 rag tops.
These cars done to high standards with number matching and paperwork can fetch well into the six figures. So is this car worthy of a resto and if so.....how do you go about it? |

Re: 1970 442 Convertible Project
I know of a car almost exactly like that growing up - color and everything. Ordered new by a lady complete with non-console 4-speed and wheelcovers. Got rusty and then a local guy got his hands on it, added the W-25 hood, and continued to ruin the POS. The last I saw it was around 1988 or so.

Re: 1970 442 Convertible Project
Get out your checkbook would be the first step, Stefano! Actually, first would be assessing what is needed and what the availability is of those needed items. I think you'd spend quite a bit of time and money doing that car to the standard required for the six figure sale price. A 1970 4-speed 442 Conv. is certainly a desirable unit and would sell rather easily when finished. However, that car looks pretty bad and you might spend more on the restoration than the selling price would realize. If the work was done as a hobby, where the price of labor was insignificant, a "labor of love" if you will, then it might make sense. This is the "perfect candidate" for the worst six letters in the car hobby.....rebody. I really hate to say it, but as of now, a '70-'72 Cutlass/442 Conv. body isn't available new like a Camaro or Mustang is, so a rust free donor is almost a necessity.

I'd like to see some one do that car. As a labor of love.....
