Default Strange Muncie Maincase Casting Number

I picked up this 67 Muncie M20 4 speed the other day. It has a maincase casting number that I have never seen or heard of. Has anyone else seen this casting number? The trans has a partial VIN on it so it was installed in a car, not an over the counter replacement.

Thanks,

Jason

You always find cool stuff Jason!
From the Vin and 7 being 1967 or 1977 also K being Kansas or Leeds assy, the most common possibility is probably '67 Chevelle?
Any signs of a provision for a ntrl. safety switch?
If stamping indicates '67 too, if M is August the high Vin must be late '67 production not early '68?
What others possibles are there also check Vin ranges as not all started at 100001 plus compare stamping w/ any known similar date examples?
Lastly, I tried Google w/ your casting # and got this 1975 newspaper ad that looks like your trans being sold???

Pete,

Thanks for the reply. You are quite the detective. I can pull the trans out and check for the reverse switch. I imagine the date is August, 66 for the 67 model year. I just thought it was crazy that this number does not seem to come up anywhere. In fact, I just realized I did not post the casting number myself so it would not pop up for someone else searching. The casting number is 3363610.

Thanks,

Jason

Jason,
If the date was Aug '66 for '67 production, again would the last 6 of the VIN be at 8763 cars already built by Aug. 25?
Being August, either '66 or '67 may be possible for '67 production so best compare other known VINs and dates also confirm model changeover date and averages per day to the 25'th and see if 8763 is possible?
Yep, casting 3363610 is what I Googled and found that old newspaper ad w/ what seems the same # Muncie for sale.

I checked out the case and don't see anything unusual about it. The tag attached to the side cover is number 3870357 which shows as 66-67 Chevelle 396 M-20. Maybe this case was used for a very short period of time in between the 010 and 660 Muncie cases? I guess it really doesn't matter, it is a 67 M-20. I just thought I would share.

Thanks,

Jason
